Birthday Card - Shy Away

March 1, 2019

As predicted, 2019 is rapidly becoming the year Brighton’s melancholy-pop masters Birthday Card make their more than deserved breakthrough. The release of their fourth single follows a flurry of social media attention after Dirty Hit’s Jamie Oborne sent a tweet looking to find the creators of a demo he had received, by the name of Shy Away.

Released today via These Bloody Thieves Records, Shy Away is inarguably the four-piece’s strongest release to date. As anticipated, it’s a hypnotic, atmospheric mix of indie, pop and 80s influences flawlessly combined into a mature, modern pop track you’ll instantly fall in love with.

The introduction of autotune on frontman Josh Saw’s dreamy vocals is a bold step, but one that pays off; adding the perfect touch to the track’s groove laden melody. Shy Away is the excitement inducing release we’ve been waiting for from Birthday Card; proving both their potential and knack for quality indie-pop.
