Submariner - Ghosts

April 6, 2018

Brighton-based indie rock band Submariner pride themselves on piecing together ambient tunes that are warm and emotive, with meaningful lyrics and catchy hooks. Having old out several headline slots on the south coast in 2017, this band is set for big things in the coming year.

Ghosts ticks all the boxes; floaty melodies with a solid beat, smooth vocals and a definite distinct sound as a band. This song’s political undertones may not be entirely apparent at first but regardless carry a dramatic and sad tinge throughout the song, which is all the more special since this track is already strong and emotive regardless of lyrical meaning. Submariner say Ghosts is “spiritually inspired by last year’s general election” which respectably resonates on a level beyond the clichéd love songs that dominate the music scene. This is paired with effortlessly cool layers of harmony, gorgeous guitar and whirring synth sounds creating the perfect contrast between music and lyric.

With attention already gained from BBC Introducing, Submariner are set for a big year in which they hope to release their debut EP and play various shows and festivals around the UK.
