Red Rum Club - Eleanor
2019 was a very good year for Red Rum Club, with a string of successful live shows and the release of their excellent debut album Matador. And now, following their Best Live Act nomination at the AIM Independent Music Awards 2020, the band look to make 2020 even better with their latest single Eleanor.
Continuing their signature blend of catchy indie rock and Ennio Morricone-style brass work, Eleanor makes a clear case for song of the summer, merging their established sound with new influences and inflections to provide something distinctive. The introduction of synths to the band’s sound provides a warm backdrop for the band to do their thing.
The production work from Chris Taylor (Blossoms, The Coral, She Drew the Gun) is a masterclass in blending elements together, with every instrument, vocal and harmony matched together with perfect precision. It all comes together to create a bright, sunny feeling perfect for warm get-togethers in the garden and full-throttle gigs alike.
Written in tribute to guitarist Tom Williams’ girlfriend of the same name, the lyrics are simple and easy to remember in typical RRC style. But they have a comforting quality to them, turning a declaration of love into a heart-warming anthem.
With the world pretty much going batshit for the last few months, it’s great to know this exciting band have worked hard at creating a fun, catchy banger to satisfy fans. Hopefully, this isn’t the last we hear from them in 2020.
