Liverpool Sound City Lead The KeyChange Charge With 2020 Line Up
Liverpool Sound City returns to Merseyside from 1st to 3rd of May for a third consecutive year of unforgettable live music set in the city’s Baltic Triangle.
The festival is the UK’s lead for the PRS KeyChange campaign, which aims for a 50/50 gender split across festival line ups. Having exceeded that goal in 2019 with female and mixed groups filling 59% of the line up, 2020 is set to once again lead the field for equality in the music industry; with the Sound City+ conference on Friday 1st May also meeting the KeyChange target for an equal gender split.
2020 sees Friendly Fires top the Sound City lineup with an exclusive headline show, their first festival of 2020, only show in the North West and first Liverpool performance in over a decade. Joining them are fast rising indie-pop outfit Pale Waves, who step up to co-headline with their infectious brand of indie-pop.
Arguably the festival’s strongest line up of recent years, Marika Hackman, Spector, SPINN, Bad Sounds and Marsicans lead the highlights; joined by the likes of Abbie Ozard, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, Chinatown Slalom, False Heads, Paris Youth Foundation and Social Contract are top picks from the recently announced additions.
Speaking on the festival, Sound City Managing Director Rebecca Ayres says:
"Liverpool knows how to enjoy itself, how to bring communities together… be it for work, play or campaigning. At Sound City we’ve harnessed that to bring venues, artists, creatives and businesses together in hosting a free flowing multi-venue festival, and then in true spirit of the city, we’ve invited the rest of the world to join in
"Friendly Fires are a band that insist you to throw off your inhibitions, they’re heartfelt and romantic, and a perfect party starter… we're so excited to be bringing them back to Liverpool for the first time in over a decade to lead our riotous global street party.
"Sound City is the UK’s leading independent festival and conference. One of the original multi-venue showcase festivals, the format has shifted and changed over the years, but I think we’ve now found our best iteration. All the venues are close together, there’s a real sense of discovery and ease of accessibility. The Baltic Triangle is one of the country's most innovative and thriving creative business centres, a real success story and we’re honoured to take it over for a weekend long celebration of creativity.”
