Gengahr - Never A Low

Gengahr hit 2020 running with the release of another single from their upcoming album Sanctuary, Never a Low.

Never a Low is exemplary of a larger theme for this new album, embracing a sense of “distance and separation” as explained by Gengahr’s Felix Bushe. Influenced by the long-distance relationship Felix was in during production, Never a Low, is about addiction, the “one more” mentality – one more high, one more day, one more chance to get it right. This song balances itself somewhere in the purgatory, when you’ve kicked it down but still haven’t kicked it. Gengahr’s ever-notable synth guitar work screams frustration and desperate pleas. But something in those drums that say, “take one more step".

Produced alongside Bombay Bicycle Club’s Jack Steadman, the track is a positive sign of what’s to come in the ‘20s for alt-pop – one powerhouse helping build the next. Staying in touch with their psych-pop influences but blossoming beyond the easy, sunny festival sound of their previous albums, Never a Low proves that Gengahr have been working on some profound personal and professional growth.

With the drop of Never a Low, it’s safe to start planning the party for Sanctuary’s Jan 31st release.
