DECO - Real Life
Performing and releasing music since 2017, Deco have been steadily building their reputation for themselves as a fun, carefree indie band with catchy tunes and plenty of life-affirming energy. Their latest release, the EP Real Life, continues their proclivity for 80's inspired indie pop, crafting an enjoyable collection of sunny bangers.
Opener I Don’t Wanna Go Out establishes the EP’s aesthetic from the get-go, full of bright, jangly guitars and powerful drumbeats. It’s reminiscent of the sunny, electro-influenced sound of Two Door Cinema Club and Metronomy, with warbling synths and plucking keyboards underpinning the booming, cavernous chorus. Its lyrics concerning the feeling of wanting to stay in rather than go out is a relatable topic, especially nowadays.
Make Up Your Mind is a jittery piece of dance-punk, with its day-glo synths, chic-like guitars and thumping bass recalling the best work from Friendly Fires. It’ll make a perfect addition to any indie disco. The dance vibes lead into the title track, with glittery keyboards giving way to a funky bassline, before colliding into a mirage of sound guaranteed to make your feet move.
Final track Beaches ends the party on a high. It’s a slow-burning tune, with vocalist Max Kendall crooning over a sweeping melody that builds into a kaleidoscopic wave of euphoric sounds. It makes for a stunning end to a fun, catchy and danceable collection of tunes perfect for the summer before it inevitably gets cancelled.
